Can I change supplier?
Yes, you are free to switch if you are not in a fixed term contract with your current supplier.
How do I find out if I'm in contract?
The majority of business energy contracts start with a fixed term followed by an automatic renewal or rollover unless you choose to opt-out. You can check the Terms and Conditions on your contract copy or contact your current supplier with your customer account number or meter supply number (referred to as an MPAN for electricity of MPRN for gas). If you are out of contract or on a 28 day rolling contract you are able to transfer to the supplier of your choice.
Isn't it simpler to stay with my current supplier even if I'm not in contract?
Rates offered on a 28 day rolling contract or out of contract rates tend to be higher than those offered on a fixed term contract so staying with your current supplier may not be the best option financially.
Will I be left without power at any point?
No. Your actual energy supply is delivered by your distributor which you cannot change, by switching supplier you are changing your billing provider.
How long does it take to switch to a new contract?
If you are switching suppliers the start date of any new contract will be determined by the end of your current contract unless you are on out of contract rates. If you are arranging a new contract it can take 14 days to 6 weeks to begin the new contract. The good news is you can usually submit a contract 6 months in advance of your contract end date.
